94 Old Wharf Rd in Dennis Port MA is a ten unit former cottage colony called Hurricane Pines. The Hubbard’s originally owned and managed the cottages in the 1940’s. It was then taken over and operated by Cal Cusick for over 40 years, the colony had been the summer vacation home of thousands of people since the 1960’s. When the old cottage colony changed hands in 2002, the units were sold individually as condos. The association of condominiums is now called Hurricane Pines Condominium.
The original Hurricane Pines description
“Located on the Shore Road in Dennisport, about nine miles east of Hyannis, Hurricane Pines offers ideal accommodations and surroundings for a vacation on Cape Cod. Surrounded by blue ocean waters, average temperature 72 degrees, there is the tang of salt in the air, and cool breezes relieve summer warmth. For sun and surf bathing there are white sandy beaches. The village of Dennis, home of the famous Cape Playhouse and Cape Cinema, is just a short ride away. Shopping center and fine restaurants are nearby.”
“All cottages are fully equipped for light housekeeping except linen. All cottages have fireplaces, gas kitchenettes, fine hotel beds with innerspring mattresses. All bathrooms have flush toilets and wash basins. Blankets and silverware are furnished.”
Today the ten units have been updated to the individual specifications with some having more modern amenities while a few have changed very little over the years. There are many old cottage colonies on the Cape. Hurricane Pines, although very small, is very unique and has a lot of history.
